OWNER BUILDER IN NT
Owner Builders must complete an application through the Builders Practitioners Board for all works valued at more than $12,000.
Owner Builders can only undertake single residential projects and are restricted from units/duplexes or commercial works.
This does not include a shed, carport, garage, or adding another room inside the existing building.
Owner Builders must read the Manual and sign the declaration before lodging an application for Owner –Builder Certificate.
Owner Builders must be the owner of the property, all names on title must be named on the Owner Builder permit.
Owner Builder can only apply for one permit every 6 years.
Must obtain residential building Insurance cover before starting construction.
Must, no later than 14 day after completion of building work, make a legally-binding declaration that the building work has been carried out in accordance with the Building Permit and provide a copy of that declaration to the building certifier to enable the issue of an occupancy permit.
